Patient Story

Gavin's partial knee replacement

Gavin referred himself to Mr Shah after suffering from pain in his right knee for more than fifteen years.

He had already consulted his GP and tried physiotherapy and medication. However, his symptoms persisted and were having a significant impact on everyday life.

Mr Shah examined Gavin’s knee and confirmed that a partial knee replacement would be needed to relieve Gavin’s discomfort, which was caused by secondary arthritis.

In the meantime, Gavin was given a cortisone injection and insole support to manage his symptoms before his surgery.

Gavin may need a full knee replacement in the future, but not for at least 10 years. For now, he is pain-free and enjoying an active lifestyle once again.

Before

After

After suffering for a number of years with constant pain in my right knee I decided to arrange a consultation with Mr Shah. Ever since I was a teenager, I have always been active running and playing football and then in my twenties taking up refereeing football at semi-professional level.

I have always enjoyed golf, walking and cycling. Fifteen years ago when I was 35 years old I started to feel consistent pain in my right knee. I saw my GP for advice and started to have treatment from physiotherapists and sports clinics.

In 2016 at the age of 48 I went to see my GP again who advised me to wait another 10 years and to see how things progressed. In October 2018 things were getting worse and the pain was making me more frustrated. I therefore made the decision to make an appointment to see Mr Shah. He was very reassuring and immediately assessed my knee and looked at my X-rays. He explained that if I was to have quality of life then he would need to perform a partial knee replacement with the possibility of making it into a full replacement if needed.

During the next six months I received constant communication from Mr Shah and his team ultimately being asked to attend surgery in May 2019. My care and treatment was second to none and all of the nursing staff, physios, anaesthetists and Mr Shah were so professional in their approach. After a successful operation the aftercare was excellent. I was seen immediately by a physio who was able to encourage me to stand and walk soon after the operation. I was given strict guidelines on exercises and medication to take. All of this enabled me to return to work within eight weeks.

It has now been 10 months since my operation, and I have no pain in my knee which means I am able to do so many things without pain. I am able to walk, cycle, swim and do all the things more easily rather than struggling as I did before. I would have no hesitation in recommending Mr Shah to all those people who have any kind of joint pain.
